NECROS. Annihilating Punk rock from the early days of hardcore. They started touring the country as teenagers with the Misfits, Black Flag, Negative Approach, etc…the list goes on forever. To accommodate the upcoming release of their vinyl box set reissue on Third Man Records, the band approached me to develop a pedal. So here we are… welcoming this crushing gem of brutality.
When discussing what this circuit should be… the only real request was for it to be huge and heavy similar to a few of their favorite fuzzes. I thought it would be cool to see how well we could mash up a thick fuzz with a circuit that could still crank out fast, biting punk rock riffs. In a nutshell, it’s an op amp gain stage feeding a silicon transistor driven second stage with loads of clipping and gated nastiness.
The tone is big and thick, leaving you only a single volume control knob. Loads of harmonic sustain and crunchy chug spewing out through some NOS Germanium diodes. The skull knobs are hand poured and then darkened, rendering no two alike. Resting atop the “Houdini” artwork that was initially drafted for the band by Glenn Danzig in 1983.
This early batch is limited to only 25 pedals. Each one comes with exclusive reprints of tour fliers, custom picks, stickers, all hand built and numbered by Daredevil in Chicago.
Grab one while you can.
